Morgan Pierce

Morgan Pierce was born in Washington D.C. His father being a member of the military moved the family frequently, and as a child, Morgan was able to experience different cultures and lifestyles of Europe, including Scandinavia. His family eventually settled in Ashland, Oregon, where Morgan is based to this day. His influences include the woodworker and artist Sam Maloof, and the architect and father of the American Craft Movement, George Nakashima. His experience of life abroad also helped develop his sensibility towards design, shape, and form. Morgan's main medium is wood, which he enjoys for its direct connection to nature. In his work, he gives preference to responsibly harvested, often salvaged, local wood and natural finishes that do not serve as a barrier to one's touch. His conviction is that in order to create, we need to allow ourselves to make mistakes.
